The Next Evolution of The Wood Composite Baseball Bat

Wood composite bats have steadily gained popularity because of their intended purpose, providing a more durable option vs. solid wood.

At Delano, we aim higher. Our mission is to make wood relevant again as a high performing bat. Our goal is to provide hitters the best of both worlds, tradition with performance - a wood composite bat hitters will love to game, not just because it (probably) won’t break.
We set out to design a wood-based bat that improves the hitter experience in 3 ways while also offering best in class durability, warranty and customer service:

1) Power
The BBCOR spec is the foundational performance standard for metal and wood composite bats post Little League through college. That spec was created to maintain the safety and integrity of the game and, ironically, was defined to align bat performance with solid wood.
All bat manufacturers constantly work to optimize performance up to those BBCOR limits. Wood composite bats are no exception, with some claiming higher exit velocities than solid wood and pop that approaches metal. Performance and exit velocity will continue to be pushed across all categories. With our patented FZN Composite Core™, we’ve built a bat from a solid maple billet that delivers exceptional performance compared to today’s wood composites—while remaining fully within BBCOR specifications.

2) Forgiveness
Leading wood composite bats have a nearly identical profile to a typical solid wood bat, giving hitters no benefit on non-perfect barrel hits. Solid wood bats have refined their barrel sizes and sweet spots for decades - turn models that vary the profile based on hitter preferences: 110 is a thin handle balanced bat preferred by contact hitters, 243 is big barreled, thin handle bat more for power hitters. Look no further than the torpedo bat craze for the most recent example.

Through years of wood bat expertise and engineering refinements, we’ve designed a profile that gives hitters superior forgiveness with a swing weight that is optimized for control and power.

3) Feel
Getting “rung up” is a fact of life with solid wood, and today’s wood composites offer hitters no relief (or perhaps even more pain). We leveraged modern materials and technologies to provide hitters a better, pain free experience across the full barrel.

4) Durability, Warranty and Service
Durability:  As a new brand and concept, we know we have to gain trust of hitters both in performance and durability. Delano got some great exposure in early 2025, but we intentionally delayed our first sales until we got our design and manufacturing process right. We have a durable bat today and will continue to engineer improvements tomorrow.

Warranty & Service: We put our money where our mouth is and offer a one-year warranty that is simple and uncomplicated - you break your bat hitting a standard baseball, you’re covered. The Delano Assurance Warranty also offers a Rapid Response Replacement clause - if your warranty claim includes pictures that clearly show covered damage, we will ship your replacement bat within 2 business days of reviewing your claim. We won’t make you wait until we get your bat back, so you’re back in the box with your Gamer in no-time.

In the limited cases so far that we’ve had to execute the rapid response feature, our patient customers have praised our response (check out our trust pilot reviews).

Bringing It All Back to The Vision:

Improved Hitter Experience While Putting Wood Front and Center

We remain grounded in this fundamental mission - put wood front and center of our design: in the look, feel, sound as well as performance. The full length of our bat is made from a solid maple billet, other wood composites have only a thin veneer or have a handle made of solid composite materials. The full length of our bat is turned on a lathe and the barrel is hardened exactly how solid wood bats have been made for decades.

We are proud and confident to stake a claim as
the most wood bat in the wood composite category. We will update this blog with more data and images of Delano's FZN Composite Core™ vs other leading wood composite bats soon.
